On the way, my wife and I were lamenting the fact that fields are becoming more rare nowadays. Just last year there was a nice double soccer field within walking distance. When there were no games in progress, we could go down there and toss a frisbee around or just lounge around. This year they decided to redo one of the fields and toss astro turf and lights in. That in of itself is not too bad but then they built a fence around it turning a multipurpose general field into a single use area for a select group of the community. In the words of Alton Brown, “a unitasker”. I am not knocking the soccer community at all for this change but I do feel a bit of sadness as we exclude whole communities to cater to a narrow slice.

But I digress. Back to the true field. As we walked down Clear Creek trail, the trees cleared away to open up to a very idealistic and, in my view, classic field. For those that are curious (and in the local area), you can park at the trail head at the exit for the Trigger Gate to Bangor Naval Base. For this time of the year, the light starts getting nice around 6:45PM to 8:00PM. As we approached, the clouds rolled in and blocked the sun. It truly felt like Mother Nature knew I had my camera gear out. As any photographer would do, I dealt with the situation with a bit of irony and worked what I could out of the situation. And after the photo session in true fashion, the skies cleared after I had packed everything up and was walking away with family in tow. Awesome. I will definitely come back again soon. Either way, I walked away with some great photos and another location tool in my back pocket for future use. Most importantly, the family had a great time!
